The 2010 Stampede Challenge AAA Hockey Tournament is scheduled to take place in the Calgary area from Fri, June 25th to Mon, June 28th just prior to the world famous Calgary Exhibition & Stampede. This is the 16th year for this event, which has traditionally been attended by top regional AAA teams from both Canada and the U.S.A.

Past attending players have been heavily scouted at the tournament, some progressing to major junior and professional levels. Last year's tournament was filled to capacity.

We'll feature boys divisions from Tyke thru Bantam and girls divisions PeeWee and Bantam. (We have added Gold and Silver divisions this year to accommodate the
top AAA teams as well as the developmental AAA teams). Our continuing goal
is to provide a forum for the very best regional teams to compete annually in
the top AAA hockey tournament in North America.

  2. Home team will wear light colored jerseys. Visitors wear dark. Any team not able to comply will be responsible for notifying the Head Tournament Official and opposing team at least 1 hr prior to game time. All teams will be required to supply their own warm up pucks.
  3. In championship final games the team with the best round robin record will be the home team.
  4. All games must start as scheduled except as outlined below. Any team unable to commence play fifteen (15) minutes after the scheduled starting time will forfeit the game. In this case, unless the Tournament Committee deems discretionary action appropriate, the opposing team will be awarded a 5-0 win.
    • 3 minute warm-up will apply.
    • All games will consist of three 20-minute stop time periods, with ice to be flooded every two periods throughout the tournament day.
    • In games where a flood is to be done prior to the first period, there is a possibility of a start time delay of 10 minutes, depending on the finish time of the previous game. The official game start time in this situation will be the scheduled start time or the end time of the previous game, whichever is later
    • In round robin play, where there is less than 5 minutes remaining in the allotted ice time with more than 2 minutes remaining on the game clock, the official timekeeper has the authority to notify the referee and adjust the clock down to 2 minutes during the first available stoppage in play. (Time clock will not be dropped in quarter, semi or final games, however mercy rule does apply.)
    • In ALL GAMES, the time clock will operate as running time if a team is ahead by 6 goals or more after the first period and for the balance of the game. If the score differential is subsequently reduced to 5 or less, stop time will resume. Running time penalties will be 3 minutes in duration and the timekeeper may stop the clock to post the penalty time on the arena board at which point running time will resume. Any changes between running and stop time will not affect the duration of penalties already in effect.
  5. There will be one 30-second time out allowed per team, per game.
  6. Full body contact will be permitted starting at the Major Atom boys (1999 Born) level. Body checking will not be permitted in the girls divisions.
  7. Centre Red Line will only be used for icing. Two line passes are allowed. No touch icing is in effect.
  8. Stick measurements will not be permitted due to ice time constraints.
  9. Any player or team official who receives a second major penalty (ie: intent to injure, checking  from behind, fighting) shall be suspended from further play in the tournament and may be barred from the arena. Other suspensions may apply for certain violations if warranted in the opinion of the Tournament Committee.
  10. Any team whose coach, manager, or official fails to maintain adequate control over his team, on or off the ice, may face disciplinary action, including expulsion from the tournament.
  11. Referee and Off-ice officials harassment by teams, parents and other spectators will not be tolerated. Offending individual(s) WILL be barred from the arena at the discretion of the referee and/or tournament officials.
  12. STANDINGS/TIEBREAKERS:
A)Points will be accumulated in the round robin based on 2 points for a win, 1 point for a tie, and zero for a loss.  In determining which teams will advance to wild card games or semi-finals,  any ties in standings after round robin play will be broken as follows:
Highest point total in games between teams who are tied. (Does not apply unless all tied teams have played each other except that if one team has played and defeated all of the other tied teams that team will advance)

Highest goals for & against differential, based on a maximum of 5 goals per game differential. (ALL GOALS AGAINST ARE ADDED.)

Ex: Team A 10 Team B  2. Team A gets 7 Goals For and 2 Goals Against. Team B gets 10 goals    against and 2 Goals for.

Highest decimal resulting from the following goals for/against differential formula:
GF divided by (GF + GA), based on maximum of 5 goals per game differential.

      1. Total goals for (highest) based on maximum of 5 per game, based on maximum of 5 goals per game differential
      2. Most wins
      3. Coin toss

      B) Game ties will be broken in the QUARTER FINAL, SEMI-FINAL, and FINAL  GAMES ONLY. Sudden-  death overtime will apply, during which there will be a 5 minute stop time period (10 minutes for championship finals) with both teams playing at full strength. If the score remains tied, each team will select 5 shooters and each player will take one shot on an alternating basis between the two teams.  The team with the most goals wins. If still tied, this process will repeat using any 5 players selected by the coaches, until a winner is declared.
